Guerrilla Trees.

This project was realized at Artspace in New Haven, CT in the spring of 2010. Meredith and I drew the map of New Haven on the wall in pencil. Twelve American elm saplings were placed in a planter fifteen feet from map. Strings went from each sapling to a pin in the wall. Viewers were then asked to take a pin from the wall and move it to the place on the map where they would like to see the elm planted. I then planted those saplings around New Haven in the places indicated on the map. Here is a link to a version of that map containing photos of the planted trees. I also placed several hundred elm seeds in the gallery for people to take home and plant themselves. There were more strings running to pins so the planting of the seeds could also be documented on the map.
