This sculpture is a description of the theme of the Spring movement of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. The four rows of burnt logs represent the four musical parts of Vivaldi’s arrangement. The height of each log is determined by the pitch of the note it describes. Higher notes are taller logs, so the outside row is the lead violin, and the inner row is the bass. The logs are spaced to match the rhythm of the score.
